The material

Iron that rusts.

RustiQ is a decorative finish based on real iron powder, troweled onto interior walls and objects and then activated with the Stoopen & Meeûs RustiQ & OxiQ activator. The iron particles oxidise on the surface, and the final appearance is dictated by the spatula technique and the way the activation is applied.

What emerges is a genuine rust patina — the warm oranges, ambers and deep browns of weathered iron — for an honest, industrial 'cool decoration' look. Because the corrosion is real, every surface has its own grain, bloom and depth that no printed colour can imitate.

RustiQ pairs naturally with OxiQ, which is based on copper powder: the two share one activator, so they can be applied simultaneously or in turn to build combined rust-and-copper effects. It is an interior finish for feature walls and decorative objects, and is not intended for heavy-use surfaces such as worktops, floors or stairs.

The system

How it goes on.

Composition
A decorative finish based on iron powder, supplied as a grey powder in 4 kg packs and activated by the transparent Stoopen & Meeûs RustiQ & OxiQ activator. It is mixed with roughly 0.88 litres of water per 4 kg to a homogeneous consistency.
Equipment
RustiQ is applied thinly with a Venetian or Japanese trowel; the activator is rolled on generously in cross-wise strokes until fully saturated and can be gently burnished with the trowel. A long-hair or fine-grain roller adds extra oxide structure. Tools clean up with soap and water.
Protection
RustiQ is not scrub-resistant and must be sealed after 8-12 hours with Uniwall 1KPUMat, applied thinly and evenly with a 5 mm felt roller (one coat, or two for more intensively used areas). The sealer deepens and intensifies the colours.
Where it's used
Interior use only, on feature walls and decorative objects first primed with one coat of Stoopen & Meeûs StucPrimer. It is not suitable for intensively used surfaces such as worktops, floors and stairs.
