The material

Turning back into stone.

LimeStucco is a powdered lime plaster made for every kind of decorative stucco technique, from a serene, even surface to the soft, cloud-like mottling of true Venetian stucco (estuco veneciano). Applied by hand with a Venetian or Japanese trowel, it builds a mineral finish that can be left matt or burnished to a marble-like sheen.

Because it is a natural, eco-friendly mineral lime, LimeStucco breathes: it has high water-vapour permeability and actively resists mould, which makes it as suitable for damp rooms as for everyday living spaces. It hardens slowly and completely over two to three months through carbonation, effectively turning back into stone on the wall.

Colour is worked into the plaster itself with Stoopen & Meeûs powder pigments, so the tone lives inside the material rather than sitting on top of it. Depth, movement and subtle veils of shade emerge from the trowel work, giving walls and ceilings a living, hand-made character.

The system

How it goes on.

Composition
A white-powder mineral lime plaster (pH 11-12) supplied in 4 or 8 kg packs. It is mixed with water on site and coloured with Stoopen & Meeûs powder pigments at 5% to 15%; all pigments can be intermixed. It is eco-friendly, highly vapour-permeable and mould-resistant.
Equipment
Mixed mechanically for 5-8 minutes into a smooth, homogeneous paste, then applied by hand with a Venetian or Japanese trowel in one to two coats. Tools clean up with water.
Protection
It can be protected against staining and contact soiling with Stoopen & Meeûs Uniwall 1KPUMatt varnish, applied thinly and cross-wise with a fine felt roller, or with Uniwall wax, applied thinly with a trowel and optionally buffed with a wool pad for extra sheen.
Where it's used
For interior walls and ceilings, including damp areas, over stable mineral surfaces as well as old paint layers, wood, MDF and metal. Highly absorbent or sandy surfaces are first treated with Uniwall Fix and then Uniwall Primer NF-21; previously painted surfaces are sanded (120-150 grit) before priming.
