Venetian plaster · Cost guide
What does Venetian plaster cost?

Priced by the foot, made by the hand.
Venetian plaster is quoted by the square foot, but it's hand-applied in multiple coats and burnished to depth — so the finish you choose, and the wall it goes on, decide where you land in the range.
Typical installed cost
$20–$45
per sq ft
Ranges by scope & finish
More coats and more sheen mean more hand-work. Here's how the finishes typically price, installed.
| Scope | Installed range |
|---|---|
| Feature wallA single wall or focal area — the most accessible way in. | $20–30 |
| Full room wallsContinuous walls with consistent movement and colour. | $22–35 |
| Marmorino / high polishMore coats and burnishing for a luminous, glass-like depth. | $28–45 |
| Ceilings & detailed workOverhead work, coves, columns and fine detail. | Quoted per project |
Indicative installed ranges in the Miami market, per square foot, including preparation, hand application and sealing. A planning guide, not a quote — your figure depends on the finish, the substrate and the scope, confirmed after a site visit.
What moves the number
Two walls of the same size can price differently. These are the deciders.
- 01
Coats & burnishing
A soft matte marmorino takes fewer passes than a high, glass-like polish; the deeper the sheen, the more hand-work it takes.
- 02
Finish & sheen
Classic Venetian, marmorino, or a metallic-tinted lime — each has its own labour, and a mirror polish sits at the top of the range.
- 03
Colour & movement
A single quiet colour is simplest; layered, veined or multi-tone effects are built by hand over more coats.
- 04
Area, height & access
Large continuous walls are efficient per foot; high ceilings, stairwells, coves and detail slow the work and add cost.
- 05
Substrate preparation
Venetian needs a smooth, sound base. Skim-coating, repairs or priming a poor wall is added before the plaster begins.
What a quote includes
- Assessment and preparation of the wall
- Multiple hand-applied coats of lime plaster
- Burnishing to your chosen sheen
- Your chosen colour and the agreed finish
- Sealing where the room needs it, and a clean handover
What's usually separate
- Major wall repair, re-plastering or levelling
- Removing wallpaper or failed coatings
- Priming over heavy damp or staining
- Cornices, mouldings and joinery
- Furniture moving and storage
How it compares
